FOE 4538 Memo

Hello Eagles,

Now that the Holiday Season is in full swing, we would like to wish all our members safe and happy Holidays. We have lots of things planned in the coming weeks so stay tuned.

DEC 1: Our annual toy drive kicks off with Bill and Michell hosting Karaoke. This year we are helping to support the Right Turn for Veterans Family Services which has about 90 children in residence. Although the calendar says gifts for toddler to seventeen, we would like to focus on ten years and below.

DEC 2: We will hold our very first Saturday Aerie meeting on Dec 2nd at 10:00 am. We will also have an initiation on that day.

DEC 3: We will celebrate all our Aerie and Auxiliary members who have a Dec Birthday with cake and drink specials 3 -5pm.

At the same time we will celebrate our Aerie’s 12th birthday which is Dec 4th with a steak dinner. We will start serving at 4:00 pm. The cost is $15.00 and dinner tickets are being presold because of limited quantities and to prevent a rush at 4:00. All proceeds from the steak dinner will benefit Amberly’s Place.

DEC 15: Friday Night Fish Fry!! Stop by on Friday, Dec 15 and try our Fish and Chips, only $10.00.

DEC 16: The trial that was scheduled for Dec 16th has been cancelled as the parties involved have reached a resolution.

DEC 31: New Year’s Eve! Come join us for dinner and dancing to the band “Yuma Condition”. The Aerie will close at 3:00 pm to decorate and reopen at 4:00. We will count the year down on New York time (10:00 local). Tickets are $30.00.

DECEMBER Eagle of the Month: Mary Rhodes is a hard-working member who has spent countless hours during Queen of Hearts nights selling Daily Draw tickets. Her efforts are much appreciated and we congratulate her on being selected Eagle of the Month.

PRESIDENTS’S CORNER:

Worthy President:

We hope everyone had a pleasant Thanksgiving Holiday. It was reported that a Special thanks goes to the Darts League, again they put on fantastic Turkey dinner for everyone to enjoy.

Foothills #4538’S efforts to supply 20 dinners to Right Turn for Veterans and families was outstanding. The true charity of our members ensured we had more than enough turkeys, pies and vegetables to help feed the Vets and their families for this Thanksgiving.

I would like to congratulate Mary Rhodes for being our Eagle of the month for December, her smile and friendly nature is especially wonderful while she monitors the door and helps fill up another Daily Sheet.

On December 1, Bill and Michelle Hicks will operating the Karaoke and kicking off our Christmas Toy Drive. This year we will be supporting the Right Turn for Veterans who have 91 children they are caring for and the emphasis is on 10 year old’s and younger.

December 4th is our Aerie’s 12th Anniversary. We are going to celebrate the occasion in conjunction with our monthly Birthday party on Sunday Dec 3rd with a New York Strip Steak fry and Birthday cake.

This Thanksgiving holiday gives us a chance to pause and reflect on being Eagles, the fellowship, the brotherhood of following our motto “People Helping People” and the friendship of our Brothers and Sisters when we are together. May we all have a happy, healthy and joyous holiday season.

Fraternally

Kelly O’Brien,
Worthy President

Madam President:

We hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving.

Auxiliary Initiation for December will be Dec 19th as the regular meeting day is the 25th. This means that the Auxiliary will meet the 2nd and 3rd Monday for December only.

The drawing for the NFL/Crown Royal quilt will be postponed until Dec 5th to give the Auxiliary more time to sell tickets. If you can help us sell tickets (anytime), please get some from the bartenders and sell whenever it is busy (i.e. Queen of Hearts, Darts, Loud Mouth etc.). We greatly appreciate the help from our Aerie Sisters and Brothers. We are also having a basket for Christmas. If you would like to help us sell tickets, please contact me, Debby Borst or Linda May for tickets.

We have heard your request, so, our Saturday Night Chicken Dinners will continue every other week and Chef’s choice every other week. If you have any suggestions please place them in the suggestion box or see Linda May, the Auxiliary Secretary or me.

Hear Ye, Hear Ye all you sweets lovers. The Auxiliary will be having a bake sale on Wed Dec 20th from 11:00am to 3:00 pm at the Aerie. Come join us for Loud Mouth, Meat Draw, and goodies. PRESIDENTS CORNER: Worthy President Kelly O’Brien Presidents Corner Nov 9, 2023

Hello Brothers,

We seem to be off to a good start to November. We had a very successful State Visitation with 11 of the 14 State Officers in attendance. The Aerie room was turned into a splendid Banquet Hall complete with decorations for both State Worthy President and State Madam President. All the volunteers who worked so hard helping to set the room up, serving the dinner, drinks and cleanup are applauded and appreciated for their selfless efforts. The Visitation dinner gave me an opportunity to make some well-deserved Presidential Citations, we congratulate the following for their well-earned awards.

- Tim & Rhonda Vinson for all their effort in running a great Queen of Hearts raffle and Corn Hole tournaments.
- Ann Yingling for her inexhaustible enthusiasm and energy in everything she can get involved within the Aerie.
- Todd Selenka our Webmaster for always keeping our website. Facebook page and interior electronic notice board up to date and designing our event tickets.
- Andrea Whitaker for managing to juggle with humor and expertise all the staff and cooking parts of our Taco Tuesday.
- Michelle Hicks our calendar scheduler who works diligently to keep us all informed of our many weekly events regardless of how many versions of the calendar she needs to send out.

We now look forward Veterans Day with a ceremony by Bill Wagner with a small lunch after to honor our Veterans.

Looking forward to seeing all of you enjoying the activities around the Aerie.

Kelly O’Brien

Madam President Candy Poole:

Welcome back Sisters and welcome new sisters.

First, congratulations to Babe Burton, Debbie Borst, and Joyce Thompson for receiving a Presidents Citation for making sure we have dinners every Saturday night. Also, to Diane Plotz for receiving the Mrs. Eagle Award. You are all so deserving.

Hope you all have a great Thanksgiving. Remember… if you need a place to go join us at the Aerie for dinner at 3:00 pm. Just bring a dish to pass, the Dart Players will supply the turkey. Desserts are welcome.

We are still in need of stuffing mix, rolls, gravy, cranberry sauce for the food boxes we are donating to the Right Turn for Veterans. We would like all the food to be delivered by noon Nov 17th. We are also accepting 15-17lb turkeys.

Don’t forget our quilt raffle for the building fund. You must stop in and see how beautiful it is.

Hope to see your smiling faces soon.

PRESIDENTS CORNER:

Worthy President Kelly O’Brien

Hello Brothers

There seems to be some misunderstanding by a few members, of why and how we elected a new Worthy Vice President on Oct. 2, 2023. While nothing was done improperly according to the Statutes, a couple of things could have been done differently. The Worthy Vice President resigned during the Officers meeting on Sept 18th, but he volunteered to stay in position until a new Vice President could be elected. During the Aerie meeting that day, the Nominating Committee Chair announced to the Aerie that there was a vacancy in the Worthy Vice President’s position. I then opened nominations for an election, two people were nominated, nominations were closed, and the voting was scheduled for 8-10 am prior to the regular meeting on Oct 2, 2023.

Since I had not yet read the Worthy Vice President’s resignation to the Aerie it appears that the confusion is in the belief, the Vice president was still in office while we voted for a new one, as we do prior to end of term. In the vein of full disclosure and transparency, we will be holding a new election for Worthy Vice President. Nominations will be held during the regular Aerie meeting on Nov 6, 2023, and at the next regular meeting on Nov 20, 2023, voting will be held from 8:00 am to 10:00 am, the election results will be announced during the Aerie meeting that day.

I hope this clears up any misunderstanding or confusion of the proceedings.

It is near the end of October and many of our members are starting to return from their summer retreats, we are happy to see their return.

We had some fun filled special events this last month including birthdays, anniversary, Motown night, Corn Hole Sunday, and Octoberfest. We now look forward to hosting our State Visitation on Nov 4., Veterans Day and Thanksgiving. The calendar is getting full, I hope there is something for everybody.

Madam President Candy Poole:

Dear Sisters,

Another month has come and gone and we are happy to see our old friends return and we welcome our new sisters. You have joined the best organization of wonderful sisters and hope that you will join us in our efforts to support our local and International Charities. Our “Basket of the Month” will be drawn on October 31 (Tuesday after The Queen of Hearts). Hope to see you all at the Halloween costume party. It should be “spooktacular”.

Be on the lookout for our November drawing which is a handmade NFL/Crown Royal quilt, made and donated by one of our members (Sylvia Wynandts). Buy your tickets early and often as this is a very unique quilt. Thank you, Sylvia!

Make sure to join us on Saturday nights for our fried or baked chicken dinners. We will also have a Baked Potato Bar the last Saturday of November.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and hope to see your smiling faces soon!

Candy Poole

Posted Sept 29 2023 Hello Eagles, Well, here it is, the last week of September. To us permanent residents, it means cooler temperatures, but it also means that we are beginning to see old friends who are returning from parts north.

Birthday Party: All Aerie and Auxiliary members whose birthday is in October, celebrate your birthday with us on Sunday October 1st from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. We will be serving cake and drink specials.

Oktoberfest: We will celebrate Oktoberfest on Friday October 13th with games, food, and beer starting at 2:00pm. Dinner is at 5:00 with Brats, Sauerkraut, sides, and dessert for $9.00. Come join the fun.

Horse Racing: Horse racing is back!! The horses will begin running on Tuesday Oct 3, and they are faster than ever. Come out and urge your favorite number to the finish line.

Aerie Meeting: Our next Aerie Meeting will be Monday October 2. If you are interested in participating in the operation of the Aerie, please attend. We will be voting on proposed amendments to our By-Laws and electing a new Worthy Vice-President. Voting is from 8:00 to 10:00pm. Trustee: “Looking for a few good men/women.” We have openings for the position of trustee here at Foothills #4538. We are looking for members with accounting, Banking, or CPA experience, business owners, or someone just willing to learn the business side of the Aerie. The Trustee position is a very important ingredient to the success of our Aerie, which is raising money for charities and providing our members with a safe and enjoyable experience. If interested contact any trustee or officer and an interview will be set up. Presidents Corner: We have established a new section in our memo that will enable the Worthy President and the Madam President to speak directly to the membership. Here goes.

Madam President Candy: Brothers and Sisters, The Auxiliary would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support. This quarter we presented a $4000.00 check to the “New Building Fund,” and we could not have done this without your help. Come to the Meat Draw the first Wednesday of each month where the proceeds go into the fund. We also contribute $1.00 from our Saturday night dinner where we serve baked or fried chicken with various sides, plus a yummy dessert. Our “Raking in the Dough” raffle netted over $1000.00…all thanks to you!! Visit the Aerie home and help us to raise funds for our charities, both local and national. We look forward to seeing your smiling faces soon.

Your Auxiliary President
Candy Poole

Worthy President Kelly: Hello Brothers, It‘s the end of our hot and quiet time, the return of our snowbird Eagle has started. As the Aerie President I am responsible for maintaining harmony in the Aerie and to ensure that the Laws of The Order are enforced. I have general supervision over all the affairs of the Aerie, except when the Statutes or Bylaws vest that supervision elsewhere. There are times during the year where I am compelled to exercise that supervisory responsibility. Sometimes this causes conflict within our Aerie. This conflict cannot be resolved by writing letters or making phone calls to the State or Grand Arie, although every member has the right to petition officers at every level. The proper means for a member to raise his concerns about Aerie or function operations is by inquiry through the Aerie officers or at an Aerie meeting. If your concerns are not resolved, the next step is to file a complaint or charges and let the Trustees or Trial Committee determine the validity of your concerns. If the Trial Committee decision still does not address your concerns, then you have the right to appeal that decision to the Grand Tribunal. We all need to remember our Obligation and to observe our own Aerie Bylaws and House Rules in order for our Aerie to be a pleasant and safe place for all our members to enjoy.

Your Aerie President
Kelly O’Brien

Don’t forget we have established a page on our website, www.FOE4538.com, that will allow members to make a donation directly to the new building fund. Our goal of $500,000.00 is still valid and we have a long way to go.

Thank you for being an Eagle.

Hello Eagles,

Labor Day: Join us for our Labor Day Celebration on Monday September 4th. Lunch will be Hamburgers, Hotdogs, Potato Salad, Baked Beans and Dessert for $8.00. We will have $2.00 Bud Light Draft and $3.00 Fruity Sangria. We will also draw for the E-Bike and the Raking in the Dough raffle.

Birthday Party: All Aerie and Auxiliary members whose birthday is in September, celebrate your birthday with us on Sunday September 3rd from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. We will be serving cake and drink specials.

Sunday Brunch: All of our volunteer servers and cooks have enjoyed their summer vacation, but now they are ready to resume the Sunday Brunch. Starting on September 17th brunch will be served from 10:00 to 12:00. Anyone wishing to cook, serve, or clean can call or text Mary at 425-923-4583. A food handler's card is required, but we can help you with that.

New Building: As most of you know, we have embarked on a mission to acquire a new home for our Aerie. Last year we purchased 10 acres of land, and last month, through an Aerie vote we signed a contract with a local engineering firm to start planning. This is not a quick process, nor is it a cheap one.

Speaking of funding, in the past two years we have raised approximately $200,000.00 dollars through donations and fundraisers. Our Auxiliary has been extremely helpful to the Aerie by donating $20,000.00 to date. Also $20,000.00 has been donated by a very generous member representing another organization.

Of this $200,000.00, we have spent $160,000.00 dollars; $110,000.00 for the down payment on our parcel of land and $50,000.00 for the engineering firm.

We know we don’t have the funds to complete this project, so in addition to various fundraisers, we are calling on our membership to help.

We have established a page on our website, www.FOE4538.com, that will allow members to make a donation directly to the new building fund. Our goal of $500,000.00 is still valid and we have a long way to go.

Thank you for being an Eagle.

Well, we are a couple of weeks past the Dog Days of Summer, but you couldn’t prove it by me. Still Hot.

But we have a little something that may cool us off, if just for an afternoon.

Friday 25 Aug is National BANANA SPLIT Day. WE will be making banana splits from 4:00 to 6:00 pm for only $5.00. The proceeds will benefit the Building Fund. (it’s also National Whiskey Sour Day, but no one was interested in mixing banana splits and whiskey sours).

Labor Day. Starting at noon on September 4th we will celebrate Labor Day with a lunch of hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans and dessert. The cost is $8.00 with the proceeds benefiting the Building Fund. We will also draw for the E-Bike and the Raking in the Dough raffles.

Anyone that may be interested in serving on Labor Day contact Marianne O’Brien at 928-502-0204.

The next Aerie/Auxiliary members birthday party will be on Sunday, September 3rd 1:00 to 3:00 pm. If your birthday is in September, join us for cake and drink specials.

Golfers, our golf league is getting closer to starting. If you have signed up, there will be a meeting Sunday September 24th at 4:00 pm to go over rules, format, games, and importantly, your input. League play starts September 29th at 7:00 am. More on this later.

Thank you for being an Eagle.

FOE 4538 Memo

Friday May 26th . is going to be a little different. We are having a party that is providing chicken and the rest is potluck for dinner. May Calendar and Memo

Here is the May Calendar. We are having difficulties with multiple changes happening at the last minute. When we think the calendar is complete, we get notified of more changes. We do put a few Calendars in the box at the Eagles and let people know there is still work in progress. We don't know from day to day what might happen to anyone. 1. Installation of Officers on May 16th is 9 am. 2. Waiting confirmation on the band for the 27th.

Let’s not forget all the moms on Mother’s Day. The men are cooking this Sunday for Brunch to give all the hard-working Ladies a day to relax and enjoy brunch. FREE Brunch to Mom with their Eagles Membership cardand they get a Flower to enjoy their day. We have done this for a few years which appears to make all the moms happy. We will have a little extra on the menu. Cost is $9.00 served from 10 am to 12 noon. We will also have our $2.00 Bloody Mary’s, Caesars, and Mimosas until noon.

There are a couple of large Gift Baskets donated by the Left-Right-Center group and they will be selling tickets until 7 PM on Saturday May 13th. What a great gift that would be for a Mother’s Day gift. You do not have to be present to win these baskets that have well over $100.00 worth of stuff in them.

Most everyone’s Membership cards will be expired on May 31st, 2023 . Grand Aerie drops you off the roster for nonpayment and there will be an additional fee to be re-instated charged by Grand Aerie. We have continued to have our Dues Drive every Thursday from 12pm to 2 pm. Also, when paid during that time, you will receive a free beverage chip. If you have already left for the summer, you can call 928 247 9469 and pay by credit card. Let us know if you want your card mailed or us to hold for you to pick up. If you have it mailed let us know a good address. We get lots of mail sent out returned from our members. You can also mail a check to FOE 4538, 11274 S. Fortuna rd. Suite B-8, Yuma AZ. 85367. Dues for the Aerie Members (yellow card) are $40.00 and Auxiliary Members (white card) are $30.00.

Most all the activities we have on the calendar will continue during the summer. Horse Races are taking a break during the Summer. If you feel you would have the time to volunteer to help with the horse races during the summer, please contact one of the Trustees and they would really appreciate getting you set up. The people that help to Volunteer for stuff like this are what makes our Eagles so great.

For those that have left and are leaving soon we pray that you stay safe during the summer and arrive back in Yuma ready to have fun here at FOE 4538 Foothills Eagle and we will be waiting for you.

Stay Cool at the Eagles,

From the Office of Secretary

Peggy Townsend

Fraternal Order of Eagles 4538

11274 S. Fortuna Suite 8B

Yuma, Arizona 8536

IMPORTANT PLEASE READ IMPORTANT

At our regular meeting on March 6, 2023, the chairman of the By-Laws Committee proposed an amendment to the By-Laws in Section 2.2. Which reads. The election of Aerie Officers shall be by secret, written ballet that shall list all nominations for each contested office. The election of Aerie officers will be conducted annually during the first regular meeting in May. Polls will be open from 8:00 6:00 am until 10:00 am. The use of absentee ballots is contrary to the laws of the order. The only form of ballet is provided in section 91.4.

The section has a change to the hours of voting to allow those who work the opportunity to vote prior to their working hours. This will give those members a two-hour window to vote for the nominees they want to support.

This was the first reading of the amendment, according to the constitution we must have two more readings which will be on March 20, 2023, and a final reading on April 3, 2023. At this final reading the Aerie will vote to approve or deny this amendment.

Thank You,

If you win our Eagles also win and that would put us closer to having the Money for our new home. You can buy for yourself or your friends.

I have a message from our Aerie Membership Chairman. There has been some confusion on our 3rd. Monday of the Month Initiation Meetings. For you to become a Card Bearing Member you must be Initiated. Before you can be initiated you must have completed an application and paid the appropriate fees. Then you will receive a phone call for an Interview by the Membership Chairman, she will then give you your instructions of when to show up for Initiation at 9:30 am. and to come around to the back through the fenced area and enter the back door. The front door is locked as we do not open until 11 am. You must with Grand Aerie that you be Interviewed before you can get Initiated. If you are not home, she will always leave her phone number for you to call back. So please return her call.

Lots of fun at our Eagles,

Peggy Townsend

Spring Conference is February 24-25, 2023. We have just over a month to be ready for our Arizona State Worthy President Don Rape and Arizona State Madam President Beverly Whitlock. This is always an Honor to have a State Conference at our 4538 Aerie. If you have never been to a Conference, I highly suggest that you attend this one. I have attached the Registration form with meals included. I also attached the flyer with the time and dates. Come shake hands with State and Grand Officers and have a great time. I will have registration forms outside of my office door and you can help yourself to one. We are taking reservations now so we can prepare the right amount of food.

We would like to thank all the Eagle members who volunteered and helped on the Security Detail for the big Helping Hands yard sale last month. Questions call: Keith Thompson 619-253-7339. We need to Thank Keith for his hard work and dedication in doing this year after year. It goes to a great cause.
