Memo Foothills Aerie #4538 Hello Eagles, We are seeing many of our friends from the Great Frozen North returning and we welcome them. We have missed you. Aerie Meetings: We would like to remind everyone that our Aerie meetings have changed to the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month at 7:00 pm. Come to a meeting and participate in the operation of our Aerie. Oktoberfest, October 11th: Break out your lederhosen and join us for this Fall (?) celebration that will feature a Corn Hole Tournament at 2:00 pm, dinner at 5:00 pm with bratwurst, sauerkraut, potato salad, red cabbage, cucumber salad and pretzel bites and drink specials. Halloween Costume Party, October 29th: Put on your scariest, funniest, or most original costume, come to the Aerie, enjoy our drink specials and dance to one of our favorite bands, the Dependables. During the Queen of Hearts drawing break we will judge costumes and award prizes. Be sure to buy tickets for the fabulous Halloween Basket presented by the Auxiliary. Annual State Visitation, November 8th: Every year the State Aerie Officers, other local Aerie officers and members visit all the Aeries in the state. We are very proud of our Aerie and this is an opportunity to showcase it to the rest of the state. We hope our members consider coming and interacting with our counterparts in the state. For our state visitation, we will be serving smoked chicken quarters and fixings. Taco Tues : Just a note to our volunteers. Taco Tuesday is suffering from a lack of help and we really do need you to step up and give us a hand. If we don’t get enough volunteers, unfortunately, we may have to cancel Taco Tuesday until we do get enough volunteers. I know how much everyone enjoys this event so please consider giving four hours a week or even four hours a month to help us keep this tradition going. We could also use help in the other areas such as Friday night dinners, Saturday night dinners, or baking desserts for either of these fine endeavors. Foothills #4538 Auxiliary : The Aerie would like to thank the auxiliary for their generous $3000 donation to the building fund. We do appreciate everything that you do for us. Hello Eagles!! We are happy to announce that our Member / Volunteers appreciation day was a success. We honored our volunteers and celebrated our members with gifts, certificates and a complimentary lunch. We signed up 13 new Aerie and Auxiliary members and raised $500.00 for the new building fund. Congratulations and thank you to all our members who helped to make this event happen. Our next event will be Oktoberfest on Oct 11, 2024. Details will be forthcoming. The main purpose of this memo is to give an update on our fundraising effort. Our focus at this point is to pay off the mortgage for our ten acres of land. If the land is paid off, we will be in a much better position to begin construction of a building. The fundraising goal for this phase is $500,00.00. From January 1, 2024, to August 31, 2024 we have recorded 48,452.01. These donations include: Queen of Hearts 14,070.15 Cribbage 1235.00 Darts 974.00 Loudmouth 1825.00 Pay off the land committee 5000.00 Feather the Nest Committee 1000.00 FOE 4538 Auxiliary 7400.00 Various other donations and functions make up the balance. At this point we had $120,000.00 in our Edward Jones account. We analyzed our financial position and decided that we would add enough money to our earmarked funds to make a $100,000.00 deposit to Edward Jones. So, with $220,000.00 in our account we are almost halfway to our goal of $500,000.00. List Of Donors from 1/1/2024 Carolyn Werkman, Debbie Rennick, Gene Maxon, Harvey LeSure, Ann Yingling, Joyce Thompson, Deborah Whiddon, David Horn, Lynn Watts, Kelly and Marianne O’Brien, Bill Wagner, Sam and Linda May, Bill and Rosemary Wagner, Ralph And Candy Arnold, Toni Jo Quintana, Debbie Ke, Evelyn Pribble,Vicki Spiers, Bill Groot, Jerry Lawrence, J. Beke, Billy and Tina Bolar, Larry Nelms, Bruce Price. For anyone who makes a donation, we give a lapel pin to wear. The money to purchase these pins ($1200) was donated by the members of Cheri Martin’s line dancing class. Thank you very much to the following members. JAMI ALEJANDRO, LAUNI ANDERSON, KAREN BRICE, MARILYN BURRUS, KRIS CEBELAK, SHARRON DURDEN, TAMMI EVANS, SHIRLEY FAIN, HOLLY FISHER, LINDA GREEN, DEBBIE KETTUNEN, CHERI MARTIN, ROSA MARTIN, MARGARET MARTINA, UTA McCORMICK, ANN YINGLING. Posted Aug 20 2024 HELLO EAGLES Here we are on the backside of summer, and we are looking forward to the return of our winter members. Speaking of members… We are a diverse Aerie with many members who are here only in the winter, but we have many members who brave the heat and are here year around. We would like to show our appreciation to those who support our Aerie year-round and to our volunteers who keep our Aerie functioning. So… MEMBER/VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION DAY: On Sunday September 1st from 12:00 until 4:00 we will honor our volunteers and thank our members with a complimentary dinner of fried chicken, baked beans and potato salad. If you would like to bring your favorite dessert to share, please do. Additionally, we challenge each member to bring a non-member with them. If you do, each of you will receive a free raffle ticket for a cash drawing. If your friend becomes a member each of you will receive an additional ticket. One member who brought a non-member and one non-member/new member will be drawn for the cash prize. We will have a basket raffle “Raining Dollars”. There will be a Corn Hole tournament at 2:00 pm (sign up in the Aerie, $10.00 team) We will have live music through the afternoon. Drink specials: $2.00 Bud Light draft, $4.00 Blue Hawaiian and $1.50 Busch cans. NEW BUILDING FUND-RAISING COMMITTEE: Our Building Fund-Raising committee met August 20, 2024. We are working hard to obtain enough donations to pay off the debt on the land we purchased on which to build a new “nest.” Our goal is $500,000 to be reached ASAP. This is a project affecting each and every member of our Aerie. We need a new home, and in order to do that we need dollars. We only have two years left on the lease at our present home, so it’s time to get going so we can get moving. With that in mind, there will be a volunteer at the Aerie every Tuesday evening from 5:00 pm to7:00 p.m. to receive donations. We hope to have as many members as possible donate $200 toward this cause. To date we have received $3,100.00 in donations. Pledge forms will be available so that members can pledge $20 a month for 10 months if needed. But keep in mind, every donation matters. Each person who donates will receive a special lapel pin indicating they cared enough to help. Names of donors will also be posted weekly, and alphabetically, on the Aerie TV announcement screens, with your approval. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR GENEROSITY!! Also for the Building Fund: Fifty-cent Friday donations jars will be at the front and back doors. Dropping in just two quarters to help with the building project would be appreciated. Starting September 1st, there will be $1.00 daily and $5 weekly draws at the bar. Pages in the books are numbered 1-100. you can pay $1.00 for the daily draw and write your name on any number you choose. On Friday a number will be drawn, and the winner will get 50% of that pot-the rest to the building fund. The $5 weekly draw works the same way, but the number will be drawn for the week on Friday. If you are present and your number is drawn, you will receive 50% of the pot. If you are not present, you will get 25% of the pot. If no name is on the line of any number drawn, that pot goes into the building fund. Anyone interested in serving on this committee, wants more info, or has other fund-raising suggestions, will be welcome at our next meeting on September 17, 2024, at around 10:00 am after the joint officers’ meeting. We are having our annual visitation on Friday November 8th this year. Representatives will be here from Aeries from around the state, as well as dignitaries from the Grand Aerie. If you would like to be a member of this committee, or just want to learn more about this fun event, our next meeting will be held August 27th at 9:00 am. GRAND AERIE CONVENTION: The Grand Aerie International Convention was held Aug 4 -8 in New Orleans, LA. Our Aerie was well represented with nine members attending. We received valuable training in the operation of our Aerie and enjoyed interacting with other members from around the US and Canada. It was Arizona’s turn to host the Four Corners Hospitality Room on the first day and our Aerie stepped up to make it successful. Candy Arnold took the lead in planning and decorations. Kelly and Marianne O’Brien, assisted by Cheri Martin, Sandy Carver and Ann Yingling spent weeks cooking 26 gallons of gumbo and made many (hundreds, it seemed) sandwiches and platters to serve in the Hospitality room. Debbie Rennick served food for hours and Candy Arnold and Cristy Lawson bartended for hours. They, along with many other members from the state made it a success. Our sincerest gratitude to all of you for your efforts. Thanks to all our members for being Eagles. Ralph Arnold Secretary Foothills #4538 |
Posted Aug 5 2024 Hello Brothers, This is to inform the membership that there is a vote to change our By-Laws on SATURDAY, AUGUST 10th at 10am. Change is to be read as follows: Aerie Meetings will be held the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7pm. Thank You for your participation, Stefani Newsome Assistant Secretary Foothills Aerie 4538 |
Posted July 16 2024 Hello Eagles: IMPORTANT NOTICE TOO ALL MEMBERS: Due to the seating capacity of our Aerie and due to the size of the Queen of Hearts, guests will not be allowed in the Aerie Social Room after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday 16 July and on Queen nights until the Queen of Hearts is won. When our maximum capacity is reached during these events we will not admit ANYONE else in. The Aerie meeting that is scheduled for Aug 3, 2024 has been moved by Aerie vote to Aug 10, 2024. Here is a message from the Fund-Raising Committee regarding New Building Fundraising: PLEASE HELP US BUILD OUR NEW HOME! We are all excited about the prospect of having a new Aerie home. Some new projects arebeing initiated to help us reach our goal of $500,000. Beginning Wednesday, July 24th, when you come into the Aerie you will have the opportunity to pay $1.00 to sign your name in a binder, beside any number that is open for that day. At the end of each day a number will be drawn, and if your name is on that line, you will receive 50% of the amount taken in for that day’s drawing. The other 50% will go to the building fund. Same works for the $5.00 weekly drawing, except you must be present to win your full 50% of what was taken in for that drawing. If not present, you will receive 25%. The weekly drawing will be held Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m., the week after each drawing closes. When you see “cuss” jars on the bar and hanging on the blue posts in the room, let it be a reminder that each swear word uttered will cost $1.00 to be deposited into those jars. Number 16 of the House Rules of the Aerie states “Profane language of any type will NOT be tolerated in the Aerie home.” The proceeds from these jars will also be ear marked for the Building Fund. Also, a “Pay off the Land fund raiser” will start in August. It has been projected, that if every member could donate $200, we could pay off the mortgage on our 10 acres, and OUR land could then be used as collateral to get a loan with which to build our new “Nest.” $200 is probably not possible for everyone and must seem like a large sum, but please keep in mind that with a pledge donation it is just $20 a month for the next 10 months. You can also help “Feather our Nest” by donating various sums so a special feather with your name on it will be displayed on the back wall. Everyone who donates to the “Pay off the Land” and “Feather our Nest” projects will earn a special lapel pin to wear proudly, have their name put up on a continuing list on the Aerie TV, and on the Aerie Facebook page. Not the amount, just the name (unless donor wishes to remain anonymous.) However, if a donation is made in honor or in memory of a specific person, that memorial will be posted along with the donor’s name. Donations can be made by check, cash or credit card, with Aerie Secretary, or Auxiliary Secretary. You can also come to the Aerie on Tuesday evenings between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., beginning August 13th to make your donation. Someone mentioned that folks get tired of being “nickeled and dimed to death”. Please remember, this is a special, exciting time in the history of our Aerie. We are working to have our own building on land that we own. We want something to show for the amount of money we are now paying for rent. We are all members of this wonderful organization, so let’s pull together and generously support this path to making this dream a reality. |

Mother’s Day, April 12, 2024. For more than a century, the second Sunday in May has been set aside to honor Mothers everywhere – and it all started with a push from the Fraternal Order of Eagles Past Grand Worthy President Frank E. Hering when he made a public plea to recognize Mothers everywhere. A decade later, President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation making Mother’s Day a reality. This achievement remains one of the most significant milestones in the history of the organization. From preparing brunch to buying cards and flowers, the spirit of Hering and the F.O.E. lives on through our actions on Mother’s Day. So, join us on Sunday May 12th to celebrate our mothers with brunch and flowers. To honor our mothers, all our members who are mothers may enjoy a complimentary brunch and a flower. Election of Aerie Officers will be held at the first meeting in May or May 4, 2024, at 10:00 am. Please consider running for an office and to help guide this Aerie to a bright and purposeful future of people helping people. President’s Corner: Worth President Kelly: Brothers, This is the second installment to the article that is attributed to the Philippine Eagles I came across during an internet search on how to be an Eagle, and how to influence others to be an Eagle. 1. Eagles fly alone at high attitude. Eagles soar higher above the clouds than any other bird. From this first of the seven principles of an eagle, you learn that you should separate yourself from people who do not share your ambitions. Most of the people that will want to bring you down usually are those who have accomplished nothing in life. It’s time to get rid of that friend who says that your degree will get you nowhere or that your business will not get a large market or will fail yet all they do is sit around idling. Find your fellow achievers and journey on to success. This principle also teaches you to be a leader just like an eagle is. 2. Eagles have strong vision. One of the eagle’s characteristics is when it sees its prey three miles away, he narrows its focus to it and sets out to get it. No matter the obstacles, the eagle WILL grab it. This eagle’s way is no different from any other successful people out there. They are the kind of people who no matter the circumstances, they will strive to achieve what they set out to do. In your workplace or business, you shouldn’t let challenges deter you from achieving your goals. There are going to be many obstacles, for instance, you might start a new business venture and the city council is always on your back not to mention friends and family who constantly keep discouraging you but your goal is to build that new home (Aerie) you have been dreaming of. Remain focused on your end goal no matter the obstacles. Do not let them move your focus. Keep going. 3. Eagles do not eat dead things. They feed only on fresh prey. For success, it is vital to be abreast with new changes in the environment you are in, stay focused and up to date by gathering new information and knowledge. The more you know the more open minded you become. Always do your research well to stay clear of outdated information to make sure your work or business remains marketable and relevant . If you sell clothes, for instance don’t sell trousers while everybody is wearing shorts, you will stagnate. In the next few memos, I will present the rest of the principles. Fraternally, Kelly O’Brien Worthy President Madam President Candy Hello Sisters and Happy Easter! Thank you to the Auxiliary on their donation of $3000 to the New Building Fund. Your support of our Basket Raffles is part of the reason that we are able to do this. If you haven’t gotten your chances on the Easter Basket, please do so soon as the drawing will be after Easter Brunch. Why don’t you take Saturday Nights off from cooking and join us for the Auxiliary Dinners from 5:00-6:00, where we donate $1.00 from every meal sold to the Building fund. Speaking of food…. on Thursday’s during Early Dues Renewal, you could join us for lunch for Babe’s Mix and Match which is anything from nuts to bolts, soup, sandwiches and weekly specials. It is a perfect time to have a bite while you are renewing your dues for the 2024-2025 year. All dues are due by May 31, and we even give you a free drink chip if you sign up during this period from 11:00-1:00. Hope to see you there. Nominations for Auxiliary Officers will be made April 15th at the regular Auxiliary Meeting and Elections will be held during the first Meeting in May. Please consider running for an office and to help guide this Auxiliary for the 2024-2025 year. We can use the new ideas that you have. The purpose of the Auxiliary is to raise monies for Charity, where we give 100% of the funds raised for that charity, so if you have ideas and are not looking to be an officer, please attend a meeting and share your ideas. We would like to say goodbye to our Winter Visitors as we know you are returning to your other homes. We wish you safe travels and are already looking forward to your return to us. Fraternally Yours, Candy Arnold, Auxiliary President |

If you are interested in learning about the responsibilities of being an Auxiliary Officer, please contact myself, Candy Arnold at 928-581-7544 or Babe Burton, the chairman of the Nominating Committee. Come and join our family, you won’t be sorry. The Auxiliary is preparing lunches on Thursday from Noon until sold out. Babe Burton is doing a variety of sandwiches, soups and salads. Every week is a surprise!!! Come and join us. The time is approaching that some of our sisters will be leaving to go to their other home. We wish you safe travels and can’t wait to see you next season. Now that we are providing more meals (Taco Tuesday, Wednesday lunch, Thursday lunch, Friday dinner, Saturday dinner and Sunday brunch.) we are running out of space to store our goods. If you have a Freezer that you would like to donate, we would greatly appreciate it. As it stands now, we have to shop several times a week as space is limited. You can contact Ralph Arnold at the Aerie or myself. Thanks for your consideration. If you are interested in taking the lead on a meal, you can also let me know, come and cook YOUR special dinner. Volunteers are needed for all meals, as I mentioned earlier, some of our sisters will be leaving us and although we cannot replace them, we can use your help in their absence. Looking forward to seeing you at one of our Aerie events!! Fraternally, MP Candy Arnold Worthy President: Brothers, Recently when I was doing some internet research on how to be an Eagle, and how to influence others to be an Eagle, I came across this article that is attributed to the Philippine Eagles. I liked it so much that I thought I should share it will all the members of our Aerie. It is pretty long so I will present it in installments. This is the introduction to the article. Eagleism is fraternalism, or that state of relationship characteristic of brothers. In the Philippine Eagles, members must have primordially developed a deep sense of brotherhood among them. It is the primacy of their relationship is brotherhood. E – Enlightened and innovative humanitarian A – Animated primarily by a strong bond of brotherhood and fraternal ties. G – God-loving, non-sectarian. L – Law-abiding, liberty-oriented, non-political. E – Emblazed with intense mission of S – Service to country, its people and its community. The Fraternal Order of Eagles is an international non-profit organization uniting fraternally in the spirit of liberty, truth, justice, and equality, to make human life more desirable by lessening its ills and promoting peace, prosperity, gladness and hope. When we arise in the morning we have a strong belief that the seed of success within us is growing. Point is, we all need a daily dose of motivation in a world full of ups and downs leaving us with stress on how to achieve success. In us lies the strength to make us creators of circumstances other than creatures of circumstances. This is why, Dr. Myles Monroe, an intriguing persona who made a mark as a preacher, thinker, and leader, came up with the seven principles of an eagle which should educate and motivate you. In the next few memos I will present each of the principles. Fraternally, Kelly O’Brien Worthy President |
